Launched in 2015, the competition is open to young people working in wine production roles within the New Zealand wine industry. This includes cellar hands, cellar managers, those working in the laboratory, assistant winemakers, winemakers and if space allows those studying winemaking.
There will be three regional finals in 2026. The winner from each will then go through to represent their region in the National Final. Applications will open early 2026 and location details to come.

Organic Winegrowers NZ will bring Dr Mary Retallack to NZ for regional workshops within our major wine producing regions.
Each workshop will consist of a morning of theoretical knowledge on functional biodiversity, vineyard and soil health of vineyards followed by a practical session after lunch.
Growers will take home knowledge and tools to allow them to start monitoring and use practices to track biodiversity, vine and soil health within their own vineyards.
