Recognising that great wines begin in the vineyard, the Young Viticulturist of the Year competition celebrates the future of viticulture. This prestigious competition is open to those aged 30 years and younger and tests the wide range of skills required to be a successful vit.

The Field Day will include information sessions, including a seasonal update.  The information session will be followed by a rotation through practical modules to support vineyard decision making and activities on the vineyard over winter and beyond.

This free, in-person session is tailored for winemakers, production teams and bottling managers, focusing on the latest advancements in cork closure performance — including innovations in oxygen management, sensory neutrality, sustainability, and micro-granulated technologies like Xpür®.

The session will be led by Dr. Paulo Lopes, Oenologist and Senior Innovation Manager at Amorim Cork, and will provide practical insights backed by global R&D.

Often no bigger than a tennis court, microforests are small, multi-layered planted forests that serve as carbon stores and biodiversity stepping stones. Asita Langi from the Nelson Whakatu Microforest will share the concepts and methodology of microforests as a restoration tool for small spaces. Learn how Biochar was incorporated into the Nelson Whakatu Microforest and how this tool improved soil, water and nutrient retention. Lunch provided so registration essential!
