Geographical Indication (GI) Boundary Member Information Session

  • Whitehaven Wine Room 2 Hutcheson Street Blenheim, Marlborough Region, 7201 New Zealand (map)

Monday 30 November | 2pm | Whitehaven Wine Room located in the Whitehaven Theatre, 2 Hutcheson Street

The Marlborough Geographical Indication (GI) (Marlborough’s registered winegrowing region) stretches south of Kaikoura, north to the Marlborough Sounds and northwest to Rai Valley. There has been a call to reduce the size of the Marlborough GI to better match areas most suitable for Marlborough Wine. However, for others reducing the GI boundary risks stifling innovation and emerging areas, which have been very successful for Marlborough in the past.

Wine Marlborough will host a member discussion on the (GI) Boundary at 2pm on the 30th November in the Whitehaven Theatre. This is an important opportunity to better understand what the GI does and does not represent, where the current boundary sits, and how it came to be established when registered in 2018. Whether you’re deeply familiar with the topic or approaching it for the first time, we encourage all members to attend.
